Even after the Swiffer commercial, or the Tide ad which features an Asian woman and black man as a couple, the second Cheerios installment still caused controversy.
People constantly speak about how far we've come from segregation and racism.
Really, how far have we come when people as young as 16 must deal with constant remarks for even wanting to like someone with different skin?
Many students, such as myself, don't care about race, but is that because I'm mixed?
What about an "all-white person," or an "all-black person? When many people think of "inter-racial" dating, they think of black and white, when in reality it is so much more than that.
I'm also a bit surprised by the truly overwhelming support (97 percent) among African-Americans for interracial dating, as I'd always gotten the sense that this was a pretty contentious issue in the black community.

The ad has been recognized for its inclusion of a person with a physical challenge as well as the racial dynamics of the family.The racist backlash against seeing a black man with a white woman was so severe that Cheerios had to disable comments on its You Tube account.During the Super Bowl this year, the brand double-downed on its efforts to be reflective of a diverse nation and released a second commercial featuring the same family.Three years ago, Sealy Mattresses released a commercial that features at least two white men in interracial couples in a clearly sexual situation, and there was barely any recognition.The Philadelphia Cream Cheese commercial showing a white man and black woman touching and kissing as they prepare dinner together caused barely a blip.Any combination of races is just completely wrong to some people. We could hide who we are and do what's "acceptable." I choose to stand for what I want and what I feel should be accepted. It seems that "More than eight-in-ten Americans (83%) now agree that "it's all right for blacks and whites to date," reflecting the most dramatic change among the racial attitudes tested in Pew polls." It's interesting that this change doesn't merely reflect cohort replacement.
